UX heuristic evaluation of the DNA VecCtor application
After successful implementation and delivery of the SER.Gate and DNA applications, the client asked us to perform a set of UX evaluation tasks to determine the current state of UX of the application. The results of the audit are taken into account in the development and improvements are planned in the next iterations of the DNA application improvement cycle.
The heuristic usability evaluation is a deep analysis of the digital product based on the rules the interface should obey in order to be comfortable in use for its end-users. This method helps to identify general usability problems in a fast way. As the rules are rather general than strict specific guidelines, they should be applied together with the context of the product’s usage and the dedicated strategy.
During the analysis the following 10 points were taken into account:
- Visibility of the system status
- Match between the system and the real world
- User control and freedom
- Consistency and standards
- Error prevention
- Recognition rather than recall
- Flexibility and efficiency of use
- Aesthetic and minimalistic design
- Help users recognise, diagnose and recover from errors
- Help and documentation
The result of the audit was a report with a number of suggestions, issues and risks leading to conclusions and recommendations to be implemented in the next iterations of the application development. The report was consulted with the Product Owner and the development team. The recommendations in the next step will be put into development backlog (both for the UI designer and software developers).
